Northern Territory Multimin Performance Ready Challenger
My name’s Jessica Di Pasquale and along with Alison Haines and Noah Taylor, we manage the Charles Darwin University’s Katherine Rural Campus.
The property is located 16 km north of Katherine and runs a Brahman Stud and Brahman / cross bred commercial herd.
Multimin Program
We are excited to be part of the Multimin Challenge and are interested in seeing pregnancy improvements in our Multimin treated cows compared to a non-treated herd.
With the guidance of our Multimin mentor Dr Amanda Dunn from Katherine Veterinary Care Centre, we are running a trial on some of our non-pregnant adult cows to see what effect Multimin 4 in 1 trace mineral injection may have on their pregnancy status come March 2019.
Multimin Treatment Program
160 non pregnant, adult cows have been assigned one of two treatment groups at random. They will either be given Multimin or no Multimin (control herd) one month before bulls are introduced for joining in December. Allocation to groups is to be done so that there are the same range of cattle weights and similar numbers of 1st and 2nd breeders.
Group A: Adult cows
- 80 head will remain untreated with Multimin and act as the control
Group B – Adult cows
- 80 head will be treated with Multimin
In March 2019, all trial animals will be preg-tested. Data collection will be able to determine which treatment was given to the cow and its pregnancy status.
Multimin injection has been scientifically proven to top up trace minerals so we’re looking forward to seeing the results and will be sharing our visual observations over the coming months here.
